Regulations For Educating Your Child At Home Using A Colorado Independent School Home-Based Study Program

Notify The School
To notify the school district simply enroll your child in a Colorado Independent School Home-based Study Program.
If You Need To Withdraw Your Child
Contact your child’s school and ask if they have an official withdrawal form for you to fill out.
The state of Colorado has no requirements for qualification.
Hours of Instruction
Students participating in an Independent School Home-based Study Program must be enrolled for a minimum of 172 days per year.
The state of Colorado requires independent study programs to include the following 7 subjects as part of their curriculum:
- communication skills; reading, writing, speaking
- constitution of the United States
The state of Colorado does not require parents to keep records who has a child enrolled in an independent home-based study program.
Each independent home-based program will have it’s own testing schedule with no regulations from the state.
Immunization Law For Colorado Students of Independent School Home-based Study Programs
The state of Colorado requires students enrolled in independent home-based study programs to be vaccinated. You must also keep record of your child’s immunizations but the state of Colorado will not require you to submit them.
