Notify The School District

Iowa Competent Private Instruction by a licensed teacher requires that parents submit Form A to their local school district by September 1st of each school year. You must also send a copy each child’s immunization records.

 

Qualify

Parents can only homeschool under supervision of an Iowa certified teacher. You have two options for choosing a certified teacher:

  1. Choose a certified teacher in your area.
  2. Enroll your child in the Home School Assistance Program with your local school (they will assign you a teacher).

 

Hours of Instruction

Iowa Competent Private Instruction requires that students are instructed for 148 days; a total of at least 37 days each quarter.

 

Required Subjects

Iowa Competent Private Instruction does not require a specific lists of educational subjects to be taught.

 

Keep Records

Iowa Competent Private Instruction does not require parents to keep records.

 

Testing

The supervising teacher must monitor each students progress.
