Regulations For Iowa Competent Private Instruction By A Licensed Teacher

Notify The School District
Iowa Competent Private Instruction by a licensed teacher requires that parents submit Form A to their local school district by September 1st of each school year. You must also send a copy each child’s immunization records.
Parents can only homeschool under supervision of an Iowa certified teacher. You have two options for choosing a certified teacher:
- Choose a certified teacher in your area.
- Enroll your child in the Home School Assistance Program with your local school (they will assign you a teacher).
Hours of Instruction
Iowa Competent Private Instruction requires that students are instructed for 148 days; a total of at least 37 days each quarter.
Iowa Competent Private Instruction does not require a specific lists of educational subjects to be taught.
Iowa Competent Private Instruction does not require parents to keep records.
The supervising teacher must monitor each students progress.
